Beaches & Coastline

One of the joys of our location is the proximity to the wonderful Kent & Sussex coastline and the variety of beaches to be found.
If you fancy a day in a ‘kiss-me-quick’ hat, with an ice cream in hand watching the children building sandcastles, we are blessed with some of the finest beaches in England. The superb sandy beaches at
Camber or
Dymchurch are just over 30 minutes away, with the seaside resorts of
Rye,
Hastings,
Bexhill and
Eastbourne all a similar distance.
Perhaps you’d like to spend some time crabbing or looking for fossils? Less than 30 minutes away, the pebble beaches at Pett & Fairlight offer adventurous days of discovery. The cliffs and foreshore are comprised of layers of sandstone and clay, deposited during the Early Cretaceous epoch, approximately 140 million years ago.

Fossils can be found along the entire coastal stretch between Pett Level and Hastings. Among the finds made over the years include: dinosaur bones and footprints, horsetail stems and other plants, fresh-water bivalves, and fish remains. Although dinosaur remains are less common, when they are discovered their importance is usually very high - please notify
Discovering Fossils or the
Natural History Museum in London if you discover something of importance!
